India’s World Cup winning skipper Kapil Dev believes we should give Prithvi Shaw some more time to settle. Dev said the prodigy batsman has shown the right promise to do well at the big stage. Shaw’s talent was on display in the first Test match at Rajkot when he scored a fine hundred on his Test debut. The 18-year old was able to tick the right boxes as he scored a fine 134 off just 154 balls.

Kapil Dev said that it is always good to see the young talent perform at the big stage. Shaw had shown great skills while playing at the domestic circuit. Subsequently, he was able to carry the same at the topmost level. However, it is just the beginning for Shaw. In fact, he has written a good first chapter in his International book.

“It is always wonderful to see young talent perform at the highest level. It gladdens your heart. The way Prithvi batted was brilliant, it was so good To see,” the legendary all-rounder told Hindustan Times.

Kapil Dev believes we should not put any extra pressure on the young lad. In fact, Indian skipper Virat Kohli had also spoken on the same lines as Shaw should not take any extra burden on his shoulders.

“We should be careful and not put too much pressure on him. As far as I am concerned, comparisons should never be made. He has just started, played only one inning. We should give him time, say a couple of years, see how he progresses. But he looked very good, he showed promise and this was very good to see,” he added.

On the other hand, the former Indian all-rounder said that the Indian pace battery has done a fine job in the recent past. Indian fast bowlers were able to get 20 wickets on the foreign tours, which was a big positive for the team.

“I think they are brilliant, they are very good. Now we depend on the fast bowlers, they can win matches for us. Previously we all depended on spinners, and although we have the best spinners right now also, it is great to see the fast bowlers coming and contributing to the wins,” the World Cup winning captain said.

Kapil Dev has hit the nail on the head with his statements. Prithvi Shaw has started his career on a positive note after his maiden hundred. Shaw will look to continue with his good show in the ongoing second Test match.
