Of late, the debate for wicketkeeping slot in the Indian National Cricket Team has become more often scenario. Indians have got MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik in the ranks. Currently, BCCI selectors persisted with Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik in ODI setup. Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar puts his objection.

The former cricketer of India believes that Dhoni’s calmness is quite vital in a pressure-filled tournament like ICC World Cup 2019. Majrekar believes that it was MS Dhoni’s cool attitude, which brought success to India in ICC World Cup 2011.

Further, the cricketer-turned-commentator quoted that Rishabh Pant has got every ingredient in him to deliver the goods for the country. Sanjay wants BCCI to include Rishabh Pant, as the back up for the experienced former skipper of India.

“It is a real dilemma because Pant seems to have all the ingredients needed to make it to the team, but Dhoni’s performance would be watched. I would personally like to see if Dhoni is able to win matches as frequently as he used to. Watch his performance very closely,” Sanjay Manjrekar quoted.

“One thing that goes in favour of Dhoni is that because this is the World Cup, you need somebody with his level of calmness. In 2011, Dhoni’s calmness was one of the main reasons why India won the World Cup. His calmness on the big stage is going to be a big source of strength,” Manjrekar said.

Surprised to see Dinesh Karthik getting the nod – Sanjay Manjrekar

Meanwhile, he believes that the selectors should move on from Dinesh Karthik, especially, in the Test and ODI format of the game. Sanjay quoted that India should restrict Dinesh to T20I format, which has been the best suit for him.

“I am actually surprised by Dinesh Karthik’s selection because he lost his place after the Asia Cup and I look at him as an extremely valuable player in T20 cricket. I believe that India should move on with Karthik when it comes to Test and ODI cricket. They should look to use him in T20s,” Manjrekar added.

Well, it would be interesting to see how BCCI would go with their approach for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. Most probably, it would be a toss-up between Rishabh and Dinesh, as MS Dhoni is more or less confirmed.
