Delhi Capitals suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Kings XI Punjab a couple of days ago after they lost 7 wickets for just 8 runs in 17 deliveries. They literally snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. From a position of strength, DC fell like a pack of cards as Sam Curran completed a hat-trick. The main issue with Delhi Capitals has been the temperament.
Even against Kolkata Knight Riders, they looked well set to win the match with overs to spare. However, that was not the case as the match went to a super over and it was only a Kagiso Rabada special which gave DC a victory. They have some potential match winners in their ranks who has the ability to turn the complexion of the game with both bat and the ball.
Someone like Rishabh Pant can change the game within a blink of an eye. His knock of 78 of 27 deliveries against Mumbai Indians will remain one of the greatest knocks ever in the history of the tournament. With guys like Chris Morris coming in, DC has got a perfect blend of youth and experience. However, they need to be more professional and start finishing out matches early.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, has played some exceptional cricket in their last couple of matches. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow have been unstoppable at the top of the order. Both have scored centuries in the tournament and shared a 185 runs stand for the opening wicket not long ago. Both batters can take the game away from any opposition and will look to get SRH to another good start.
The form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a worry for Sunrisers Hyderabad. If Kane Williamson is fit he will lead the team but if he unable to recover, Bhuvi will continue to lead the team. The spell of Mohammad Nabi changed the complexion of the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He bagged 4 wickets for 11 runs but the form of Rashid Khan might be a concern for SRH. He hasn’t looked lethal like he always does but a great performance might just be around the corner.
Date and Venue:
The match will be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi.
The track in Feroz Shah Kotla has been traditionally a high scoring venue. Even in this tournament, the pitch has been a good batting deck. However, Feroz Shah Kotla has always helped the spinners. Dew will be a huge factor as it was in the previous game. Jofra Archer said that it was the worst conditions he has ever bowled. All said and done it should be an interesting game today.
It is expected to be a hot and humid day in New Delhi. Temperature is expected hover in the mid 20’s. As it is a night game condition will be a bit cooler than the day time. As of now, there are no chances of rain and the match should go as per plan.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will start as firm favourites for the match. Delhi Capitals has looked good in the tournament so far but a hiccup in the last match will be a tough pill to swallow for the whole team. From a situation of strength, they lost 7 wickets for just 8 runs in 17 deliveries. Hence my bet is with Sunrisers Hyderabad to continue their winning run in the tournament.
