Paul Valthaty, who last played IPL in 2013, was sold to Mumbai South Central at his base price of Rs 50,000 in Mumbai T20 league auction.

He hadn’t played any form of senior cricket since 2013, the year when he played his last IPL game as well.

Valthaty came into prominence in IPL 2011 where he scored 463 runs in 12 games.

His innings of 120* against Chennai Super Kings in a high scoring game helped him gain popularity.

After having a fruitful season in 2011, his form dipped in the next edition.

He could just score 30 runs in six games in 2012 before being dropped from the side.

He played his last T20 game for Kings XI Punjab in 2013 before disappearing from the IPL scene.

He found a buyer in the Mumbai T20 league and was sold to for an amount of Rs 50,000.

Him getting a buyer in the auction also means that he is eligible to play for Mumbai as well.

As per the rules, players who are eligible to represent Mumbai presently or in the coming season can only be part of the league.

It is clear that he can play for Mumbai is he does well in the league.

He has played five first-class games till now, with his last appearance in this format coming way back in 2011.

Along with that, he has also played four List A and 34 T20 games.

Iqbal Abdullah and Bhavin Thakar were also two players who were bought in the auction.

These two players are currently serving the cooling off period to be part of Mumbai.

They switched their base to Kerala for 2016/17 season.

The Mumbai T20 league saw many of the stars getting a big paycheque.

Ajinkya Rahane and Suryakumar Yadav were the most expensive buys.

Both the players were sold for an amount of Rs 7 Lakh.

Surprisingly, Shardul Thakur went unsold in the auction.

He is the part of the Indian team for Nidahas Trophy and will miss the full T20 league.

Same is the case with Rohit Sharma, but still, he found a buyer due to the star factor attached to him.

The inaugural season of Mumbai T20 league will be played from March 11 to 21 at Wankhede Stadium.
