New Zealand vs Bangladesh 2019: Shakib Al Hasan Flys back Home, X-Ray Will Decide His Return

Bangladesh troubles in New Zealand has further stretched with the unavailability of their star player Shakib Al Hasan. He returned home to treat his finger injury and set to undergo X-Ray. The flamboyant cricketer’s future will decide on the reports of the X-Ray. If the injury is serious and required surgery, he could well miss the upcoming Indian Premier League 2019.

The experienced all-rounder has been enduring a finger injury for some time now and it will be diagnosed once again in a few days. Shakib was selected for the New Zealand tour but he was ruled out of the three-match ODI series and could not play the first Test in which Mahmudullah replaced him as the captain of the troop.

Shakib missed much of the action in 2018 following an injury to his left little finger. He was not fully fit until the home series against West Indies in November-December. However, he made a successful return but unfortunately, couldn’t continue, as injury strikes back again.

Earlier Bangladesh Cricket Board Operations Committee Chairman Akram Khan hinted about the availability of Shakib in the third and final Test match against New Zealand starting from March 16 in Christchurch. Unfortunately, it is not going to be the case.

Meanwhile, one of the BCB officials revealed to the media that the fate of the all-rounder will result in the X-Ray reports. Further, he went on to add saying that the reports might go either side. It might also delay his return and see him missing in the action for quite a few games.

“The condition of his finger will be diagnosed by an X-ray. We will decide Shakib’s fate for the tour after that,” Nannu was quoted by media reports in Dhaka.

Nannu also said that Shakib, who missed out ODI series, told him personally that the pain in his finger has gone down. Further, he is feeling quite well, bdcrictime.com reported. However, with ICC World Cup 2019 around the corner, they might not risk him.

As far as the series is concerned, Bangladesh has been whitewashed by New Zealand in the 3-match ODI. In Test series, they were outdone by Kiwis batting department to seal 1st game of the series.
