Just minutes after Team India started their World Cup campaign against South Africa, Prime Minister Narender Modi wished them. India, on Wednesday, became the last of the ten participating teams to open their campaign in the tournament. All the other nine teams have already played their first games while some have also played two.

Well, India will be hoping to make a solid start to their campaign. The Men in Blue are the firm favourites for the tournament and a flying start will do their confidence a world of good. And Shri Narendra Modi’s message will only motivate them further to do well for the side. The honourable Prime Minister, whose party BJP recently registered a landslide win in the elections, took to Twitter to wish the team.

He not only asked the players to win the game but also hearts as he tweeted:

“As #TeamIndia begins it’s #CWC19 journey today, best wishes to the entire Team. May this tournament witness good cricket and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship. खेल भी जीतो और दिल भी ! #INDvSA

India, meanwhile, had a mixed result from the warm-up games. The favourites suffered a crushing six-wicket defeat at the hands of New Zealand. However, the two-time winners bounced back in style by thrashing Bangladesh by 95 runs in their second warm-up game last week. KL Rahul and MS Dhoni both scored a century as they played a knock of 108 and 113 runs respectively to help India post 359 for 7. The bowlers then bowled out Bangladesh for just 264.

Meanwhile, India’s opponents South Africa have started their tournament on a poor note. The Proteas have lost both of their opening games. In the tournament-opener, they suffered a heavy 104-run defeat at the hands of England. In their second game, they lost to Bangladesh by 21 runs.
