Team India has finally lost a bilateral series. The Kiwis beat them 2-0 in the first two games of the three-match series to clinch the ODI series. This is India’s first series loss after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. However, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has achieved an incredible record in the game. Jadeja kept India’s hopes alive and was the last man for India to get back to the pavilion.

Team India were in all sorts of bother when they had lost six wickets for 129 runs on the board. Jadeja came to the team’s rescue and stayed there right until the end. He stitched a glorious partnership with Navdeep Saini of 76 runs for the ninth wicket.

Jadeja eventually got dismissed on 55 runs off 73 bowls.

Ravindra Jadeja Scripts Incredible Record for India:

Although India lost the match, all-rounder Jadeja achieved a great feat in the game. As soon as he crossed the fifty-run mark, he became the first Indian to score seven half-centuries batting on the number seven spot. He has surpassed former Indian captains; MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev, who have six half-centuries each batting while batting at No. 7 for India.

However, Jadeja’s gritty effort went in vain as India lost the second ODI and the series.

Having lost the first ODI, it was a do-or-die game for the Men in Blue. But, they could not cross the finishing line in the second game as well and lost their first bilateral series after the world cup last year.

Having won the toss, India decided to bowl first. They restricted New Zealand to 273-8 in their 50 overs.

Last game’s centurion, Ross Taylor played another defining knock of 73* runs. Opener Martin Guptill smashed 79 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers for India as he clinched three wickets on his return to ODI cricket after a close-to six-month gap.

Chasing the target, India tumbled down to 251 runs. Only Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja managed to score half-centuries for India apart from an entertaining knock of 45 from Navdeep Saini.

Kiwis debutant Kyle Jamieson received the Man of the Match award for his gritty innings with the bat and clinched two crucial wickets.

India will now play for pride in the third ODI when they take on New Zealand for the final ODI at Mount Maunganui’s Bay Oavl on February 11.
