The knockout stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament is all set to be shifted out of Lucknow, a report in Hindustan Times suggests. The main reason for shifting would be the lack of hotels in the state.

The Super League stage of the tournament is clashing with the dates of a state function in the city, which has created the problems for the state association.

They will not be able to accommodate the players and the staff who organise the tournament. Hence, they have asked BCCI to push back dates or the tournament will be shifted out of the city,

“We have informed the BCCI about the crisis and even suggested pushing back the dates. If they agree, we will be conducting the event in Lucknow from February 26,” said UPCA secretary Yudhveer Singh, as per Hindustan Times.

This is the second time within a period of few months that a mega event is all set to be shifted out of the city. Ekana stadium was to host the third ODI between India and New Zealand last year, but it was shifted out, as the stadium was deemed not up to the mark.

BCCI successfully organised the second edition of pink-ball Duleep Trophy at the stadium to test it out but post that, the board hasn’t been able to organize any mega-event there.

Though the stadium is in line to be one of the home venues for Delhi Daredevils. The reports had suggested the Delhi based franchise is looking to make this venue their second home ground. Though nothing has been confirmed as of now and chances of this happening looks quite less.

The league stage of Vijay Hazare Trophy started today (February 5) in various part of the country. The last league stage game is all set to take place on February 17.

As per the schedule, the second round of the tournament will start on February 21, and the final will be played on February 26. The chances of Nagpur hosting the second round of the tournament are high, the report in Hindustan Times adds.

Nagpur is also scheduled to host Duleep Trophy, as it is the home ground of Ranji Trophy champions, Vidarbha. The Irani Cup will be played from March 14 to 18.
