Shakib Al Hasan is unarguably Bangladesh’s finest cricketer thus far and one of the finest all-rounders in world cricket. Within a few years of gracing the big stage, he took the cricketing world by storm, both with his batting and bowling abilities. The flamboyant cricketer wants to deliver the goods in the same way without any further pressure of captaincy duties.

Following a defeat in the hands of Afghanistan, Shakib Al Hasan expressed his willingness to leave the captaincy role for Bangladesh.  He feels that all those discussions and extra working hours is affecting his game, which is not at all a good sign for Bangladesh, as he is their main player in the ranks.

Under his tenure, Bangladesh improved considerably in the limited-overs format. However, time and time again, Shakib Al Hasan always quoted that he doesn’t want to take the role for the team for various reasons, which he doesn’t want to speak out.

I am really disappointed – Shakib Al Hasan

Meanwhile, speaking after the game against Afghanistan, Shakib Al Hasan quoted that he is disappointed with the result even after rain making things easy for Bangladesh. With four wickets in hand to bat for 70-odd minutes, there is a good chance for the team to take the match to draw. However, they failed miserably.

“I think it will be ideal if I did not have to be the captain. From a personal point of view, it will be good for my cricket. If I have to take leadership, then we must have a discussion about a lot of issues,” ESPN Cricinfo quoted Shakib as saying. I am really disappointed. We had four wickets in hand to bat out an hour and ten minutes.

”My first-ball dismissal made it difficult for the team. The responsibility lies with me. I think it would have been better had I not played that cut shot. It put the team under pressure. I should have taken up the job to spend more time at the crease, which would have made the dressing room more comfortable. Maybe we could have taken it close to a draw,” he added.

Heavy showers allowed little play on the final day, leaving Afghanistan with a little more than 18 overs in the final session to take the remaining four wickets and force a result, while Bangladesh had high hopes of avoiding defeat with Shakib on strike but it wasn’t the case there. Meanwhile, Shakib was once again asked to lead the team in upcoming T20I tri-series.
