Apart from the first playing XI, Warne has picked senior spinner Nathan Lyon in the coveted squad.

Moreover, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ashton Turner and Shaun Marsh had made it to Warne’s World Cup squad.

Interestingly, southpaw Khawaja is the leading run-getter in the ongoing year. In the day-long format, Khawaja has accumulated 769 runs in 13 games.

At an exceptional average 0f 59.15, Khawaja has subsequently slammed two tons in the five-match series against India.

However, in the ODI format, he continued his dominant show at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) against Pakistan.

Besides, the 32-year-old Khawaja has become joint-fastest to slam 1,000 runs in ODIs while featuring in his 27th innings.

Interestingly, apart from Steven Smith, Warne has backed D’arcy Short to open the innings with explosive batsman David Warner.

To further dissect the hypothetical squad of Warne, Short has played for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL.

Also, Short has been sidelined since November last year (2018). So far, the left-handed batsman has amassed 83 runs at an average of 27.7.
