TNCA Signs New Lease For Chepauk Stadium

Finally, three empty stands in Chepauk Stadium are set to be renovated after Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) signing a contract for 21 years. The latest agreement has given confidence to the owner of Chepuak Stadium, who is set to restart the work left behind for a long time now.

As per the reports on News 18, the signed agreements are already handed to Chepauk Stadium staff on Thursday. It means that the venue will see drastic changes with an increased seating capacity. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings also gets benefited with the new signing, as it always received a negative review to host the final of IPL because of those three empty stands.

TNCA will pay State Government:

The earlier contract had expired in 2015. The TNCA would request the Madras High Court regarding the matter. Further efforts would be made to get the stands operational for the coming India-West Indies ODI, which is to be played here on December 15.

The three stands (I, J, and K with a blended capacity of over 12,000) have been closed for the last eight years owing to several concerns. It denied the city the chance to host matches at multiple events including the ICC World T20I in 2016 and the IPL final earlier this year.

”The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association will get possession of the iconic M A Chidambaram stadium here as it has entered into a new lease agreement with the state government. As per the new lease, TNCA will pay the state government the arrears it owes, the sources added.,” association sources said on Thursday.

All in all, the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League will witness Chennai Super Kings’ fans turning the whole stadium into Yellow including those three empty stands as well. During the course, the venue also gets benefit with all the major matches set to be played at this venue irrespective of domestic or international events.
