Chennai Super Kings are the second most successful team in the Indian Premier League with 3 titles to their name. Led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the yellow army has been nothing short of being impressive as they have always perfected the art of qualifying for the playoffs every single time they have played in the IPL.

They are an incredible force to reckon with. With collective rhythm, they can outsmart any opposition on their day. However, they would want to forget what happened last season as they were trounced by Mumbai Indians in the intriguing final. The WhistlePodu army has retained as many players to their arsenal and has released only 5 players ahead of the IPL auctions.

Chennai Super Kings have their core group intact and will look to add some firepowers in the auctions which will take place on December 19 in Kolkata.

We at Cricket Addictor will take a look at three players Chennai Super Kings should buy in the IPL 2020 auctions:

1. Rahul Tripathi

Rahul Tripathi is turning up the heat with his hard-hitting skills. He shot to fame in his debut season with Rising Pune Supergiant where he smashed the bowlers all around the park. He is someone who can play as an opener and middle-order batsman as well.

He registered his career-best IPL score of 93 against Kolkata Knight Riders and was named the man of the match. His presence was felt when he aggregated 391 runs from only 12 matches at a strike rate of 146.

He then represented Rajasthan Royals for the next 2 seasons where he hardly made waves. He scored just one half-century in the 2018 and 2019 season and would want to deliver the much-needed amends in IPL 2020. He can be a perfect fit for the CSK team.

2. Tim Southee

New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee plied his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore last season and was released by the same franchise this time around. He played just 3 matches for RCB and took only 1 wicket. However, CSK needs an experienced bowler who can pose a threat to the opposition, particularly in the death overs.

Tim Southee is the best available option in the cards. He is the one who can fill the void by going about his business. He played for the yellow army in the past and would love to return to his former club. The cricketing brain MS Dhoni knows how and where to use him in the game.

3. Jaydev Unadkat

The sought-after bowler stole the spotlight in the 2019 IPL auctions when Rajasthan Royals roped him for a record INR 11.5 crore after a massive bidding battle. There was quite an intense competition among Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals.

Though Kings XI and Delhi Capitals lost the race, CSK kept going one on one with Rajasthan Royals. However, RR won the race. The left-arm pacer was okayish with the ball, picking up 10 wickets in 11 matches he had played for the team. However, he has been released by Rajasthan Royals at the end of the 2019 season.

CSK showed interest to rope him last season and it is no doubt that they would once again make the same proposal. Unadkat shares a good understanding with MS Dhoni as both played for Rising Pune Supergiant (now defunct IPL franchise). CSK released Mohit Sharma and for sure, they will give absolutely everything to purchase the services of Jaydev Unadkat.
