Virat Kohli fans bashed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah after Kohli’s recent press conference before the South Africa departure.

Batting maestro Virat Kohli quit T20I captaincy to manage his workload after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and the BCCI decided to remove him from ODI captaincy as it was informed by Ganguly that selectors didn’t want to have two white-ball captains in the team and Rohit Sharma was handed over entire white-ball captaincy.

Also, the BCCI president Ganguly while addressing the press conference said that they had requested Kohli not to quit the T20I captaincy but he didn’t agree. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli in his first press conference after the captaincy change denied all that was said by BCCI and Ganguly earlier.

Kohli in a press conference said that he wasn’t told to “reconsider” his decision and it was received very well by the BCCI. He said:

“When I decided to leave the T20I captaincy and approached the BCCI about my decision, it was received well, There was no offence or hesitation, I wasn’t told to reconsider it. It was received well; I was told it’s progressive and it’s (a step) in the right direction.”

Kohli revealed that he clearly told the BCCI that he wanted to continue as a skipper in Tests and ODIs. He elaborated:

“Then I told them I’d like to continue in Tests and ODIs unless the office bearers and selectors feel otherwise. My communication was clear in what I wanted to do. I gave them the option, that if they feel I shouldn’t (remain captain in Tests and/or ODIs), the decision is in their hands.”

In the press conference, Kohli further added that the things that are happening outside are ” not ideal”. He asserted:

 “A lot of things that happen on the outside are not ideal and not how one expects them to be, but you have to understand you can only do so much as an individual and we have to keep things in tight perspective and do things that are in your control. I’m focussed, mentally prepared, and excited to do the best I can for the team and make the team win.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday some reports emerged that Kohli will not be playing the ODI series in the South Africa tour as he wanted to take some time off to celebrate his daughter’s birthday. However, Kohli confirmed that he will be playing the ODI series in South Africa. The India tour of the South Africa series is set to begin from December 26 and it will consist of three Tests and as many as ODI matches.
