The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reappointed incumbent head coach Ravi Shastri until the T20I World Cup in 2021 hosted by India. The CAC members met at the BCCI headquarters earlier today to interview the final applicants before taking the call. While Rajput, Hesson and Robin Singh were present in Mumbai for the interview, Moody and Shastri made their presentations remotely through video conferencing. Simmons, who recently coached Afghanistan at the 2019 World Cup, excused himself from the running citing personal reasons. After going through the applications thoroughly, the CAC decided to reappoint Shastri for another term.

It was expected that the former India cricketer would retain his chair. Skipper Virat Kohli voiced his opinion in support of Ravi Shastri alongside CAC member Anshuman Gaekwad. Shastri has enjoyed good success in his recently concluded tenure winning 11 Tests and losing seven games. India held on to their No.1 ranking on the Test charts but suffered reverses on the tours of South Africa and England. In this period, India also won 44 of their 61 ODIs and made the semifinal of the 2019 World Cup. They also won 25 out of the 36 T20Is during his tenure.
