South Africa sustained a humiliating defeat against India going down 3-0 in the Test series. The Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis recently suggested doing away with toss in Test cricket as it would help teams compete better when they play overseas.

The second and third match of the series in Pune and Ranchi was an exact copy. India batted first to post 500+ totals on the scoreboard and then getting early wickets at the end of day two to put South Africa under pressure. It followed a follow-on as India walked away with the games by an innings and few runs.

Faf du Plessis, who lost all the tosses in the series said that it was the same story in all the matches of the series. Notably, South Africa did try sending a proxy captain alongside du Plessis in the third Test but it didn’t help their cause.

“Every Test match, they bat first, they score 500, they declare when it’s dark, they get three wickets when it’s dark and when day three starts, you’re under pressure,” du Plessis told ESPNCricinfo. “It was like copy and paste in every Test match,” he added.

Furthermore, Faf du Plessis also suggested scrapping the flipping of coin in Test cricket. Trying to justify his statement, the South Africa skipper said that it will help the away team compete better with the home side who already is aware of the wickets.

“If the toss is removed then away teams have a better chance. In South Africa, I don’t mind that. We bat on green tops anyway,’ said Du Plessis.
