The first innings of the second Test match between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Dimuth Karunaratne-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team turned out to be an unfortunate one for the Indian opening batsman Mayank Agarwal, who got run-out on a no-ball at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on March 12.

India have won the toss and opted to bat first in the pink-ball Test match. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal opened the innings for the Indian team and they were unable to provide a good start to the team as the latter was dismissed on the 4th ball of the 2nd over itself after scoring just 4 runs off 7 balls.

Left-arm pacer Vishwa Fernando, who was bowling the second over, bowled a good delivery that struck on the pad of the Indian opener and the Sri Lankan players went for a confident LBW appeal but umpire Anil Chaudhary was not convinced and shook his head.

Mayank saw the ball rolling towards the cover and he thought there is an opportunity for a single. He started running for a single but Rohit, who was on the non-striker’s end, was not interested and he told Mayank to go back, Sri Lanka fielder Jayawickrama was quick on the field as he ran around from point and threw the ball to Dickwella and the wicket-keeper had Mayank run out.

Sri Lanka were interested in taking the LBW review but Mayank Agarwal getting run out led to the umpire going for a referral first and it was found that the pacer had overstepped.

Axar Patel is fit and he is back, he comes in place of Jayant – Rohit Sharma

After the toss, Rohit Sharma had informed India had only made one change in the playing XI as Axar Patel has come in the place of Jayant Yadav. He asserted:

“We are going to bat first. It looks like a very dry pitch and runs are the board is going to be critical. Axar Patel is fit and he is back, he comes in place of Jayant. It has a lot to do with the conditions, it is a dry pitch and Axar we saw what he did in the last series he played, so obviously, we wanted to get him back.

“ Unfortunate for Jayant to miss out after playing just one Test match but again we want to give guys who have done well a slightly longer rope and give them enough opportunities to prove themselves. When it comes to the mindset we want to be ruthless. There is a lot at stake but we want to take one session at a time and not look too far ahead. It is going to be a challenging Test match and we got to be at it and get what we want from this game.”
