Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin came up with a stunning performance against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. The off-spinner starred with both bat and ball as Kings XI Punjab beat the Royals by 12 wickets to end their two-match losing streak. Kings XI Punjab now have 10 points from 9 matches while Royals have lost 6 out of their 8 matches this season.

Asked to bat first, JL Rahul and David Miller (40 off 27) shared a 85-run stand to lay the foundation. Ashwin then smashed a four and successive sixes in the last two balls to help the Kings XI put up a challenging total of 182 which eventually made the difference in the game. With the ball, Ashwin was even better. He did not concede a single boundary, gave away only 24 runs in his four overs, and took the important wicket of Sanju Samson as well as dismissing Royals’ top scorer – Rahul Tripathi.

Chasing 183, the Royals lost their in-form batsman Jos Buttler early. Rahul Tripathi (50) and Sanju Samson (27) then steadied the ship. However, Ashwin dismissed both of them to derail Royals’ chase. In the end, the Royals just could not keep up with the mounting required run-rate and eventually finished on 170 for 7.

Following the game, Ashwin had to do the customary winning Bhangra. Sam Curran and Chris Gayle had already done it and Ashwin had to do it too. Well he looked sighed but eventually shook his legs. But to make matters hilarious, one of the drummers made Ashwin sit on his drums and started playing the drum.

Here is that hilarious clip:

Speaking after the game, Ravichandran Ashwin spoke on the importance of winning the match.

“Very important to get that 10-point mark and I guess it’s the right time in the tournament to do that. Its very tough to defend here, the wicket generally gets better in the second half. We probably thought we were 10-15 runs short on this pitch and I thought Arshdeep bowled really well in the first few overs. We had some plans for Jos and he really executed well. Mujeeb also I thought was brilliant, he went for a few runs but we got the wicket up front,” he said.
