WBBL 2017/18: Ashleigh Gardner Suffers a Blow on Head; To Miss Next Game

Sydney Sixers centurion Ashleigh Gardner has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Hobart Hurricanes to be played at the Blundstone Arena after sustaining a mild blow on the head in the last match against Perth Scorchers.

The 20-year-old right-handed batswoman, who started this edition of BBL with an outstanding knock of 114 runs against Melbourne Stars at North Sydney Oval last weekend, was struck by a ball on the grill on Tuesday. Although she stayed at the crease; however, her innings was cut short, as she got dismissed for seven runs off 12 deliveries.

Gardner, who missed the second ODI in Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes early this year due to a concussion, did not take the field for the Sixers’ bowling innings and was today excluded from the Sixers squad of 13-women to take on the Hurricanes.

Carly Leeson, who played only one match in her debut WBBL league last year got included in the 13-women squad. Otherwise, they have an unchanged squad from the last match, as they will be keen to turn things into their favour.

The Hobart Hurricanes are yet to declare their squad for the clash.

Sixers 13-player squad: Ellyse Perry (C), Sarah Aley, Erin Burns, Kim Garth, Alyssa Healy, Jodie Hicks, Carly Leeson, Emily Leys, Marizanne Kapp, Sara McGlashan, Angela Reakes, Lauren Smith, Dane Van Niekerk.
