In a comedic scene at Lord’s, a fan made his way out onto the pitch wearing an Indian jersey. The incident took place at the start of the second session of the second Test between England and India.

The cricketing action so far has been riveting at Lord’s but there have been a few incidents off the field as well. Earlier, some fans started popping Champagne corks onto the field close to where KL Rahul was fielding. Virat Kohli was seen asking him to throw it back into the crowd.

In the latest such event, a man walked out onto the field sporting an Indian jersey after breaching the security at the iconic ground. He pointed towards the BCCI logo on his shirt, as if to say he’s part of the Indian team. He then went on to ‘cheer’ the Men in Blue, in what looked like an attempt to fool the security.

The commentators and the players were able to see the funny side of it, with Mohammad Siraj indicating that the fan was trying to arrive at the bowling crease to bowl for India. He was then escorted away from the grounds, all the while trying to convince the security guards that he’s playing in the match.

England fight back against India on the back of Joe Root’s magnificent century

After being completely dominated by India on Day 1, England has now made their way back into the game on the back of another classy Joe Root hundred. Starting Day 3 on 119/3, the hosts were in need of a strong partnership. Root, alongside Jonny Bairstow, provided exactly that.

They stitched together a brilliant 121-run partnership for the fourth wicket, with both chipping in equally. Bairstow managed to bring up his first fifty since 2019, and England went in to Lunch having reached 216/3. Soon after the break, Mohammad Siraj accounted for Bairstow’s wicket with a snorter.

The unperturbed Root continued to stack up the runs in the company of Jos Buttler. He brought up his 22nd century and also crossed 9000 Test runs, becoming only the second Englishman after Alastair Cook to do so. Root is still going strong, and England is within 100 runs of India’s first innings total.
