In a recent development and according to trusted sources close to the BCCI, Virat Kohli is all set to be a part of the Indian team when the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 begins from June onwards. At first, it was being said that Kohli might not be taking the flight to the USA and West Indies for the tournament, given the fact that his style of play might not suit the conditions. Many had claimed that the former India captain might not be able to perform well in the tournament and that he is well over his best days in the shortest format of the game.

However, after seeing his form in the ongoing IPL 2024 where he is currently leading the run-scoring chart, it is almost confirmed that the 35-year-old will be included in the 15-man squad. As reported by Cricbuzz, BCCI is now hell-bent on including Virat Kohli in India's T20 World Cup squad for 2024. This will come as a huge boost for team India, which is going to take part in the T20 WC under Rohit Sharma's captaincy for the second time and first time since the 2022 edition.

During the 2022 T20 WC edition which was held in Australia, Virat Kohli was pivotal to the team's journey towards the semi-finale where the Men in Blue had lost to eventual champions England. Jos Buttler's side had defeated India by 10-wickets at the Adelaide Oval as captain Jos Buttler along along with fellow opener Alex Hales chased down the target of 169 by the 16th over. England then defeated Pakistan by 5-wickets in the finale held at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Virat Kohli's 2022 T20 World Cup as it went

For those who considered Virat Kohli as a finished product in the T20 format, must take a look at the way he is playing in IPL 2024. Playing like lone wolf, if someone removes Kohli from the RCB starting XI, then the South Indian franchise will not even last all 20 overs in the pitch. In 5 matches against CSK, PBKS, LSG, KKR and RR, Kohli has already scored 2 half-centuries as well as a century which came during RCB's most recent loss at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur.

Virat Kohli was being criticized for playing selfishly and for scoring the slowest IPL century but was he left with anyother option? Especiall when he had no one to support from the other end. Nonetheless, doubters should also have a look at the way Kohli performed in the previous T20 WC edition. Not only was he India's best batter but he was actually the best batter in the tournament overall, scoring 296 runs from 6 innings at an average of 98.66. His inclusion in the team during ICC events is very important and the selection committee's decision is absolutely right.
