The Indian selectors are likely to announce the squad for the World Cup by the end of April. The selectors are closely monitoring the performances of Indian players in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The performances in the IPL 2024 will impact players' selections for the World Cup.
Rohit Sharma To Open Innings With Virat Kohli
Rahul Dravid, Ajit Agarkar, and Rohit Sharma had a meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai last week. Sports journalist Abhishek Tripathi from Dainik Jagran discussed the player's role in the squad for the World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and USA in June.
Rohit Sharma is expected to open the innings along with Virat Kohli, who used to bat at No. 3 for the national team in shorter formats. Shubman Gill might be the backup opener in the 15-man squad. Young batter Riyan Parag will be in the scheme of things, considering his batting in the IPL 2024.
Virat Kohli is the leading run scorer in T20I history, scoring 4037 runs in 117 matches at an average of 51.75 and a strike rate of 138.16, including one century and 37 fifties, with a highest score of 122. However, he opened the innings only nine times, amassing 400 runs at a strike rate of 161.29.

Hardik Pandya's Spot In Jeopardy; Riyan Parag To Earn Maiden Call-Up
The team management indicated that Hardik Pandya needs to bowl regularly in the IPL 2024 to make his comeback in India's T20I squad. The MI skipper has been in poor form with both bat and ball in the event. He has taken just three wickets in four innings at a dismal economy rate of 12.00.
Riyan Parag, representing the Rajasthan Royals, has impressed selectors with his batting performances. The 22-year-old batter, batting at number 4, has scored 318 runs in 7 matches, including three fifties. He has a good chance to make the squad if he maintains his form in upcoming matches.
