Vice-captain of the Indian women’s cricket team Harmanpreet Kaur is one of the key players for her team in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. She was a part of the Indian squad which had a heartbreak after losing the 2017 World Cup final against England. This time around, they are more determined to perform to the best of their potential.

Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj form the batting core of the squad which has a few other impressive players as well. Heading into the WorldCup, the Indian batters had a good hit out in the ODI series against New Zealand. All three of them scored the fifties in the final ODI against the White Ferns.

Addressing the press conference ahead of India’s first game against Pakistan on March 6, Harmanpreet Kaur opened up on her form and the team’s preparations.

“Well, I have high expectations from myself, I know my importance in the team, I always want to do well but sometimes things do not go in your favour but the last two innings which I played gave me a lot of confidence. When things are not going for you, people start talking but the silver lining is that people who are close to me keep on giving me confidence” Kaur replied to a query from ANI.

“I am really thankful to them. When the going is tough, positive thinking and talks play an important role. I am getting back to my rhythm, I just hope to continue with it,” she added further.

Heading into the World Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur scored a century in the warm-up game against South Africa. She also hit a fifty in the final ODI against New Zealand. Her knock of 171 in the semi-final against Australia in 2017 remains the best knock of her ODI career. She looked back on that knock in the presser as well.

For Me, Numbers Do Not Matter: Harmanpreet Kaur

“My 171-run knock against Australia in the 2017 World Cup is a standard set by me, that kind of cricket I can play. I know people keep on talking about knock, and probably this is the reason why my scores of 40-50 do not get noticed much. For me numbers do not matter, I should be there when the team requires me,” said Harmanpreet.

She concluded by saying that she prefers batting at number four but is likely to bat at number five in the upcoming Women’s World Cup.

“See, discussions keep on happening. I am more comfortable at No.4, but you have to play according to team demands. Right now, I will keep on playing at No.5 rather than No.4″ Kaur said.
