Winning the toss and batting first in Tauranga, New Zealand put up a brilliant first-innings score of 511 runs. The Kiwis were off to a forgettable start and lost both the openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway for 39 runs. However, Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson put up a stand of 232 runs for the third wicket. Both the batsmen played some brilliant knocks and put their team in a commanding position in the match.

On one end, Kane Williamson played an innings of 118 runs from 289 balls whereas, Rachin Ravindra slammed a brilliant double century and played a knock of 240 runs from 366 balls. Ravindra repeated his ODI heroics in the Tests as well and has proved to be a brilliant batsman for the Kiwis.

Soon after the departure of Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, and Rachin Ravindra added another 103 runs for the 4th wicket, which helped New Zealand put up a first-innings score of 511 runs.

In reply, South Africa were wrapped up for 162 runs as they fell cheaply against the Kiwi bowlers. Matt Henry and Mitchell Santner picked up 3 wickets each whereas, Kyle Jamieson and Rachin Ravindra bagged 2 wickets apiece.

Batting in their second innings, New Zealand are 179/4 at the end of Day 3 and currently lead by 528 runs in the match. The current team of South Africa, lack many mainstream players such as Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi. All these players are currently busy playing in the SA20 2024 due to which many new names are playing in the Test series against New Zealand.

The Kiwis are the champions of the World Test Championship 2021 and will be wanting to repeat the performance in the current cycle of the world’s largest Test tournament.
