The India Vs England 5-match Test series had it all. From heroic debutants to never-ending England woes, this will be a series to remember for a long time. Another feat that has been achieved in this series is that it’s the first time more than 100 sixes have been scored in a red-ball series and the previous record was 74 during the Ashes last year.

In the 3rd innings, Jonny Bairstow who is playing his 100th Test, took the total count of sixes to 101 with his 3 huge maximums. And if the statisticians sit to break down the count of sixes, it will be the Indians who will come out on top. Yashasvi Jaiswal alone has hit 26 sixes while Shubman Gill, the second-highest run-getter of the series, has 11 sixes to his name.

India closing in on Innings victory at Dharamshala

The story for England with the bat went as it had been going until now. Display the rapid-fire Bazball, do not show defensive gameplay, try to score as many runs as you can, and lose your wicket by playing a rash shot. That has been the entire story. Ask Joe Root about it, he will describe how perfectly Bazball suited his natural style of play.

This particular style of play has seen the English contingent fall off like a house of cards, especially in this 5th Test match at Dharamshala. England batters still performed well in the 1st innings when they scored 218 on the back of Zak Crawley’s 79, Ben Duckett, Jonny Bairstow, and Joe Root’s 20s.

Then India batters came out all guns blazing, especially the top-order – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Devdutt Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan, all of whom had 50+ scores. While Jaiswal got out after a half-century, Rohit and Gill scored full centuries before Padikkal and Sarfaraz carried on the Indian innings with their 50s.

The Indians were bowled out for 477 earlier this morning in the day’s 1st session which saw James Anderson enter the 700-Test wicket club and Shoaib Bashir complete his back-to-back second 5-wicket haul. India needed another inspirational performance from their bowlers in the 3rd innings and it was Ravichandran Ashwin who once again stood up when the team needed him to.

The off-spinner who is playing his 100th Test match at Dharamshala, had scalped 4 wickets already in the 1st innings. And in the 2nd innings, Ashwin was the one who started the England route. He picked up the first three wickets of Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Ollie Pope, all cheaply.

Then after Kuldeep Yadav removed Jonny Bairstow, Ashwin completed his 2nd five-for of the series by claiming the wickets of Ben Stokes and Ben Foakes. Then Tom Hartley and Mark Wood were removed by stand-in captain Jasprit Bumah before Ravindra Jadeja bowled Shoaib Bashir.

India claim another commanding victory

Soon after Bashir’s dismissal, Joe Root tried to go for a glory shot with a six but he picked the fielder at long-off and that was it. India claimed the 5th and series-concluding Test match by an innings and 64 runs and that means the Indians are still unbeaten in all of their red-ball series since 2012.
