Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his batting prowess during the second Test between India and England which was played at Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. The 22-year-old opener smashed his maiden double-century in the first innings scoring 209 off 290 deliveries with 19 boundaries and seven sixes to his name. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar lauded the youngster’s ability to learn things quickly.

Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on a century after he was out for 80 in the first Test in Hyderabad. He rectified his mistakes in the second Test and not only got a century but went on to smash a double-ton to become the third-youngest Indian to score a double-century in Test cricket. He was the only player to cross the fifty-run mark in the first innings and held his end as the other batters gave their wickets away after a few good shots.

Sunil Gavaskar heaped praises on the southpaw for his ability to learn quickly and for holding his end in the first innings. He lauded Jaiswal for not giving his wicket away like others after being set. Yashasvi Jaiswal has a lot of potential and is taking his place in the Indian team quickly. He has yet to debut in the ODI format but has made his impact in the other two formats.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal showed he is a quick learner by making sure he didn’t miss out on a hundred as he did in the first Test match by scoring a magnificent double century in the second Test. India certainly needed someone to hold the innings together with a big century as once again most of the other batters got going like they did in the first Test and then gifted their wickets away,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for the Mid-Day.
