Mohammed Shami‘s last-minute injury ruled him out of the series. Umran Malik has been named as his replacement by the BCCI. Without the likes of him Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Yuzvendra Chahal, India’s bowling attack looks a bit weak with the new lot of bowlers given a go in the series. In this article, we take a look at India’s Predicted playing XI for the first ODI against Bangladesh.

Rohit Sharma will be the other opener in the Indian XI. He has been criticized for not batting well in the T20 World Cup. He took a break from the New Zealand series and is back for the series against Bangladesh. Rohit is not in his best knick at the moment. However, he can use this series to return to form. The Hitman is the second-highest run-getter against Bangladesh with 660 runs from 13 matches.

Virat Kohli

Kohli has scored 680 runs against Bangladesh and over 500 runs in Bangladesh. He returns to the side and slots in at three. He emerged as the top-scorer in the T20 World Cup with 296 runs at an average of 98.67. The former Indian skipper has found his form since the Asia Cup where he scored his maiden T20I century ending the wait for his 71st international century.

Iyer emerged as the top-scorer in the New Zealand series for India with 129 runs from three games at an average of 64.50. In the absence of SKY, he can slot in at four. The right-hander has scored over 100 runs in the last two to three years in ODI cricket.

KL Rahul (WK)

With Rahul’s return to the side, the management might want to give him an opportunity ahead of Rishabh Pant who had a string of low scores in the recent series against the Kiwis. His only game against Bangladesh was in the 2019 World Cup where he scored 77.

Rahul Tripathi

Tripathi with his versatility will be a good batter to bat at number six. He has been in previous India squads traveling overseas but is yet to make his debut for India. The management can give him his debut ODI cap.

Sundar slots in at number seven. In the recent ODI series against the Kiwis, he showed a lot of maturity with the bat. He scored 88 runs from three games including his maiden ODI fifty.

Shardul Thakur

Thakur can slot in at eight. He was a part of the squad that played the ODI series against New Zealand. He played the first ODI picking up just one wicket for 54 runs.

Siraj with his pace can create problems for the Bangladesh batters. He started out as a specialist Test bowler but then has made his presence felt in ODIS and Tests. He played the T20Is against the Kiwis but was not picked for the ODI series.

The Bengal all-rounder can be another player who can be included in the playing XI. He made his ODI debut in the series against South Africa before the T20 World Cup. He has taken two wickets from his two games so far. Last month he was retained by RCB ahead of the IPL 2023 auction.
