India vs Bangladesh, IND Playing 11 vs BAN (Predicted), 2nd ODI.  Bangladesh stunned India in the 1st ODI of the three-match ODI series by snatching a sensational 1-wicket win and taking a 1-0 lead.

In the low-scoring game, India batted poorly and posted a below-par total after being asked to bat first. Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s heroics with the bat down the order helped Bangladesh clinch a stunning win over India in the first ODI. India and Bangladesh will face each other again on 7th December 2022 at the same venue Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium at 11:30 am.

Their bowlers did an outstanding job to make it a big enough target, but all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz took them home in the end with a knock for the ages. That win would have boosted the home side’s confidence tremendously and they would now be hard to stop.

Bangladesh asked India to bat first on a tough wicket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the first ODI. The ball was gripping the surface and Shakib Al Hasan produced a fantastic spell of 5-36 to put India on the back foot with regular wickets. Fast bowler Ebadot Hossain (4-47) further dented the Men in Blue’s chances of posting a formidable total and they were eventually bundled out for 186.

Chasing the small target, Bangladesh were cruising at 128-4 in the 35th over at one point. However, some incisive bowling from the visitors had them reeling at 136-9. It was all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38* off 39 balls) and tailender Mustafizur Rahman (10* off 11 balls) who took them home in an emphatic fashion. The next match will be played at the same venue and Bangladesh are likely to retain the same eleven.

Bangladesh Predicted Playing XI: Litton Das (c), Anamul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Ebadot Hossain

India’s problems in limited-overs cricket continue to rise with every passing game. Their top order has been ineffective for a while now and in the first ODI too, they failed to deliver with Shikhar Dhawan, captain Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli falling cheaply yet again.

KL Rahul top-scored with 73 off 70 balls but didn’t get any support from the other batters. With the top order looking scratchy and out of touch, the onus will once again be on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer to make the big runs.

India’s bowling was good for the most part in the last game. Defending a small target, the seamers bowled their heart out to keep the opposition batters under constant pressure. Pacer Mohammed Siraj (3-32) was the pick of the lot and he will be the one to watch out for in this 3-match ODI  series.

Deepak Chahar started well but was poor at the death and that might prove costly in the other games too. Washington Sundar (2-17) bowled tight lines and lengths but left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed kept leaking runs at the other end. India would be hoping that Axar Patel is available for the second match as he can keep it tight in the middle overs.

India have another injury to deal with and it’s Shardul Thakur. The pacer was in discomfort during his spell in the first ODI. He has a niggle. However, the medical team will check the severity of his condition and take a call on his availability. Umran Malik who has joined the team will be available for selection in 2nd ODI.

Pacer Shardul Thakur suffered frequent cramps during the 1st ODI in Dhaka despite cold and dry conditions. But it’s a muscle niggle and the team management may not risk him with the 2-match Test series coming up. It should also be noted that Mohammad Shami is unlikely to be fit for the Test series.

Axar Patel suffered a rib injury while practicing. He was not available for selection in 1st ODI. It is unlikely that he will make it for 2nd ODI in Dhaka on Wednesday. But if he is fully fit, he will replace Shahbaz Ahmed.

India Predicted Playing XI:

Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik

Shikhar Dhawan scored 72 in the 1st ODI against New Zealand in the ongoing 3-match ODI series. He had also done well against Zimbabwe in the 1st ODI by scoring 81* and 97 against West Indies in the 1st ODI in the preceding ODI series, but had a poor series against Proteas.

The 37-year-old may bid adieu to international cricket after the conclusion of ODI WC 2023. Shikhar Dhawan’s last ODI century came during the 2019 ICC World Cup match against Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. He has hit 17 ODI tons. The left-handed batter is a regular member of the team in the ODI format.

He scored only 7 off 17 balls in the 1st ODI and will have to be back amongst runs in the 2nd ODI besides keeping a healthy strike rate, otherwise, Ishan Kishan may replace him in the 3rd ODI.

Rohit Sharma

The right-handed batter and Indian current skipper Rohit Sharma has shown decent form in the 50-over format this year. Rohit Sharma will open the innings for the team against Bangladesh in the 2nd ODI. He scored 27 off 31 balls in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh.

He was rested for the ODI series against Zimbabwe, West Indies, and New Zealand. His last ODI series before the ongoing 3-match ODI series was against England in July 2022 where he hit 76* in the 1st ODI. He has a record 3 double tons including the highest recorded individual score of 264 to his name.

Virat Kohli

The 34-year-old middle-order batter run machine Virat Kohli’s recent ODI form isn’t that great. But a good show in the Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022, where he was among the leading run-getters, will give him the necessary confidence to return to form in ODIs too.

He has hit 43 ODI tons, the last of which came in August 2019 when he slammed back-to-back tons against West Indies. He is the 2nd highest century scorer in ODIs after Sachin Tendulkar (49 ODI tons) and the 6th highest run-getter in ODIs. He scored only 9 off 15 balls in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul top-scored for the team in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh by scoring a vital 73 off 70 balls batting at No. 5 before being the 9th man to be dismissed.

KL Rahul is also keeping the wickets in absence of Rishabh Pant, who has taken a break despite traveling with the team. KL Rahul averages around 45 in ODIs. The ODI fixtures against Bangladesh are a make-or-break series for KL Rahul. To note, the senior batter is coming from a leave. KL Rahul is already under fire for his sluggish show in T20 World Cup 2022.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer will play instead of Suryakumar Yadav, who isn’t included in the squad for Bangladesh ODIs. India’s Shreyas Iyer is in sublime form in ODIs. He scored 24 off 39 balls against Bangladesh in the 1st ODI of the ongoing ODI series.

He managed 129 runs against New Zealand averaging 64.5 in 2 innings, and 191 runs against South Africa including a 113* in 3 innings. He is having a phenomenal year in ODIs having amassed over 600 runs and averaging nearly 60 in 15 ODIs in 2022.

Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar debuted way back in December 2017 but has only featured in 10 ODIs where he picked as many scalps. He, however, failed to pick a single scalp in the recently concluded New Zealand ODI series which was marred by rain.

Washington Sundar scored 19 off 43 balls but lost his wicket after being set but with the ball, he was economical, picking 2/17 in 5 overs at an economy of 3.4- the best among Indian bowlers in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh.

Shahbaz Ahmed

The bowling all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed made his international debut this year, playing 2 ODI games against Proteas. He also picked 3 wickets in those 2 games, bowling at an economy of 5.06. However, he was wicketless in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh returning with figures of 0/39 in 9 overs. He may retain his place in the XI for the 2nd ODI, unless Axar Patel is fit.

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar has featured in only 11 ODIs since debuting in the 50-over format way back in the 2018 Asia Cup as his career was plagued by injuries.

He was wicketless in the previous ODI series against New Zealand (0/30 in 5 overs) but had picked 5 scalps in 2 games against Zimbabwe in the preceding series averaging 20.4. He has picked 16 scalps in 12 ODIs averaging about 30 including 1/32 in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh.

Umran Malik

Umran Malik debuted in ODIs along with left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh in the 3-match ODI series against New Zealand. He was added as a last-minute replacement for the injured veteran pacer Mohammed Shami for the Bangladesh series.

He may be in India’s starting XI in the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh in place of the injured Shardul Thakur. In 3 ODIs, the express pacer has picked 3 scalps averaging 32.33 but in 3 T20Is, he has picked 2 scalps averaging 56. His economy rate is 6.46 in ODIs and 12.44 in T20Is.

Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj debuted in ODIs way back in January 2019 but has played sporadically featuring in 14 ODIs where he picked 21 scalps averaging around 25. His career-best figures of 3/29 came against West Indies in February 2022. He was the pick of the Indian bowlers against Bangladesh in the 1st ODI, picking 3/32 in 10 overs, and is the player to watch out for.

Kuldeep Sen

Kuldeep Sen debuted in the 1st ODI against Bangladesh but was expensive- 2/37 in 5 overs at an economy of 7.4. After an outstanding season with Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2022, Kuldeep Sen was rewarded for his consistency.

This bowler from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, made his IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals this season and appears to be having a breakout year in 2022. After a productive debut season with the Rajasthan Royals, where he finished with 8 wickets in 7 games averaging 29.63, he was selected in the Indian squad for the Bangladesh series.

Kuldeep Sen was not selected for the Indian squad initially and only came in as a replacement for Yash Dayal, who had to pull out due to an injury.
