IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid Have Set Up An Atmosphere, Where They Are Dealing With Failure In Most Rational Way – Dinesh Karthik

The 37-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has said that the current setup of the India National Cricket Team is very different from the ones he has been part of in the past. He also lauded the head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma for maintaining a calm and positive environment in the team.

On Friday, Karthik played a glorious cameo knock for India to help them post 190/6 on the board and eventually win the game by 68 runs. The wicketkeeper-batsman smashed 41 runs off 19 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on July 29. Also, he was awarded the Player of the Match for his performance.

In an interaction with Ravichandran Ashwin on Bcci.tv, Karthik said that he is enjoying the current Indian setup and added that the captain-coach duo of Rohit and Dravid are dealing with “failure in the most rational way possible”.

“This Indian team is very different (compared to the previous ones). I am really enjoying this setup. The kind of calmness that seems to be around in terms of coach and captain, a lot of credit must go to both of them. They have set up an atmosphere, where they are dealing with failure in the most rational way possible.”

The 37-year-old said that he was treated the same way by the management even when he was not performing well for the side. He said:

“They are also bringing on board people who can help players try and be themselves. That was something that could have been missing before. At times when I didn’t do well, I still felt I was treated the same way. The dressing room atmosphere is very calm and good.”

During the same conversation, Karthik further said that the ultimate goal of the India National Cricket Team is to perform well at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia. He said:

“It’s a journey. You’ve (Ashwin) also been a part of many teams. I am sure you know the difference as well. These are all small tick boxes that we need to have at this stage of the game. But obviously, the ultimate goal is to do well at the World Cup. I am sure both of us have a small role to play in that.”
