India vs Zimbabwe, India Playing 11 vs Zimbabwe (Predicted), 3rd ODI, India Tour Of Zimbabwe 2022. India will battle it out with Zimbabwe in the third and final ODI on Monday (August 22). The KL Rahul-led side has already sealed the ODI series 2-0. Now, India will be aiming for a whitewash and take positives into the Asia Cup 2022.

The hosts’ Zimbabwe was no match for India’s ruthlessness and quality in the 2nd ODI match. India wrestled down the hosts in the second ODI match too and went on to take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the ODI series. They will look to experiment with a few more players in the 3rd and final ODI match and look to audition for the future.

Zimbabwe on the other hand will be searching for that big performance from any player that might give them an upper hand to fight the strong Indian team. The hosts would be hoping to put up a healthy score onboard. On both occasions, they were all out for below 200.

India won the match by 5 wickets as they scored 167/5 in 25.4 overs. MOM Sanju Samson top scored with 43 runs and led the team to the victory.  Shikhar Dhawan (33 runs), Shubman Gill (33 runs), and Deepak Hooda (25 runs) in the match. The likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi might get a chance in playing XI in this 3rd and final ODI match.

Shardul Thakur claimed 3 wickets and was the leading wicket-taker in this match. Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel claimed a wicket apiece and were phenomenal with the ball. All the six bowlers claimed wickets as Deepak Hooda, Kuldeep Yadav, and Prasidh Krishna too took a wicket each in the match.

A complete bowling performance led by Shardul Thakur’s three-for (3-38), followed by a 56-run partnership between Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson, helped India inflict a 14th straight ODI defeat on Zimbabwe to win the three-ODI series, on Saturday in Harare, with one game to go.

Shardul Thakur got the most wickets for India on the match day. But it was a collective effort, with Mohammed Siraj’s eight overs going for just 16 runs, and all the bowlers on the show getting among the wickets to bowl Zimbabwe out for 161. In reply, the visitors cruised home with five wickets and more than 24 overs to spare.

India 167 for 5 (Samson 43*, Jongwe 2-33) beat Zimbabwe 161 (Williams 42, Burl 39*, Thakur 3-38) by five wickets

After having returned from a long injury lay-off, Deepak Chahar bowled extremely well in the first ODI against Zimbabwe where he took as many as three wickets and moreover bowled seven back-to-back overs in a single spell. The right-arm pacer was also named the Player of the Match for his special performance. But he was rested for the 2nd ODI to manage his workload.

He may return for the 3rd ODI which also may see Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad debut in ODI format. The likes of batters Shubman Gill, Shikhar Dhawan, and pacers Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj may be rested for the 3rd inconsequential ODI.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad had impressed with 635 runs at a strike rate of 136.26 in IPL 2021 even winning Orange Cap but his tally came down to 368 in IPL 2022, with a strike rate of 126.46. In 14 matches with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 368 runs, with a high score of 99.

Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his maiden international fifty in the third game after setbacks in the first two matches of the home South Africa T20I series. Ruturaj Gaikwad went after the express pace of Anrich Nortje in the fifth over of the India innings, hammering four fours on way to making 57 off 35 deliveries. In 9 T20Is, the opener had scored 135 runs averaging 16.88 but is yet to debut in ODIs. The 3rd inconsequential ODI may see him get a chance to open the innings.

Rahul Tripathi

Rahul Tripathi’s wait for a call-up in the national side finally came to an end with BCCI declaring the 17-member squad for the T20Is against hosts Ireland. Batting at a strike rate of 158.33, the right-handed batter Rahul Tripathi had accumulated 413 runs from 14 matches in this edition of the IPL 2022 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He had scored 397 in 17 matches in 2021 and was a key player for his former franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. He didn’t get a chance against Ireland in the two T20Is but was named again in the Indian squad for 3 match ODIs against Zimbabwe. The fact that India has already won the series means he may get his debut cap in the 3rd inconsequential ODI against hosts Zimbabwe.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan who has played 19 T20Is has played only 5 ODIs so far where he amassed 94 runs averaging 23.5 with a highest of 59. The left-hander, however, has been quite consistent, with 543 runs in 19 T20Is at an average of 30.17 and a strike rate of 131.16.

He wasn’t required to bat in the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe and scored only 6 runs in 13 balls in the 2nd ODI but may be given another chance in the 3rd ODI.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul was selected captain of the 16-man squad for the three-match One-Day International series against Zimbabwe, which begins on August 18. KL Rahul has not played competitive cricket since leading Lucknow Super Giants to the IPL 2022 playoffs. KL Rahul underwent sports hernia surgery in Germany after being ruled out of the 5-match T20I series against South Africa at home.

KL Rahul also missed the crucial trip to England and was ruled out of the West Indies tour after contracting Covid-19 while undergoing rehabilitation in Bengaluru. He has amassed 1635 runs in 44 ODIs averaging 45.52 including 5 tons. He didn’t bat in the 1st ODI and scored only 1 run off 5 balls while opening in the 2nd ODI. He may bat in the middle order if India opts to play uncapped Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the 3rd ODI.

Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda, who has scored a ton against Ireland in the last 2nd T20I, scored 140 runs in 7 ODIs averaging 35. Deepak Hooda made his ODI debut against West Indies in February this year and played a couple of games.

He scored 60 runs averaging 30 in the 3-match ODI series on the West Indies tour besides picking up a solitary scalp. He wasn’t required to bat in the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe and scored 25 off 36 balls in the 2nd ODI. He has also picked up 1 wicket of Sean Williams bowling 2 overs at an average of 6 (conceding 6 runs).

Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson was the MOM in the 2nd ODI as his precious unbeaten 43 off 39 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes bailed the team out of trouble while chasing a paltry target of 162. He was involved in a 56-run 5th wicket partnership with Deepak Hooda (35).

Sanju Samson played only 1 ODI in Sri Lanka 2021 tour where he scored 46 runs before managing 72 runs in 3 matches on the West Indies tour. He has scored 161 ODI runs so far averaging 53.67 in 5 innings (6 ODIs) and will be preferred to bat in the middle order again.

Axar Patel

Axar Patel scored 85 runs in 2 ODI innings playing the 3 ODI matches on the West Indies tour, besides picking 2 scalps. Axar Patel was the Man of the Match in the 2nd ODI against West Indies, picking 1/40 bowling 9 overs besides scoring an all-important 35-ball unbeaten career-best 64 which was pivotal to India’s come-from-behind victory chasing 312. His innings comprised 3 fours and 5 sixes.

He wasn’t required to bat in the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe, but had a successful outing with the ball, picking up 3 scalps in 7.3 overs and conceding 24 runs. In the 2nd ODI, he returned with figures of 7-1-20-1 picking up Brad Evans’s scalp. He remained unbeaten on 6 off 7 balls in the successful chase.

Uncapped spin all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed may also be tried out in Axar Patel’s place. Shahbaz Ahmed became a surprise entrant into the Indian team for the Zimbabwe tour coming in to replace the injured Washington Sundar. Shahbaz Ahmed has played 29 matches in the IPL and has scored 279 runs, and picked up 13 wickets-all for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur replaced Deepak Chahar in the 2nd ODI. The latter had made an excellent comeback in the 1st ODI by being MOM and picking 3 scalps (3/27 in an impressive 7 overs spell). However, Shardul Thakur was impressive in the 2nd ODI too, picking 3/38 in 7 overs, removing the likes of Innocent Kaia, Regis Chakabva, and Luke Jongwe.

Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav’s comeback performance in IPL 2022, in which he bowled more quickly and confidently while scooping up 21 wickets for Delhi Capitals, was a very encouraging sight. During India’s T20I series against South Africa in June, many people anticipated that his illustrious streak would continue.

But due to a hand injury, he was unable to play in that series, go to Ireland and England, or the ODIs against the West Indies.

In the fifth T20I match against the West Indies in Lauderhill, he finally got his chance, capturing three wickets in an outstanding bowling display in which spinners claimed all 10 wickets to fall. He returned wicketless in the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe but was economical- 36 runs in 10 overs. He picked 1/49 in the 2nd ODI bowling 8 overs.

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar was the Man of the Match in the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe, picking career-best 3/27 in a fantastic 7-over spell after returning to the XI. He was rested for the 2nd ODI to manage his workload.

Deepak Chahar is returning to top-flight cricket after nearly seven months. He played his last cricket in February. Deepak Chahar, the second-most expensive pick at the IPL 2022 auction, missed the entire season for Chennai Super Kings and all subsequent cricket for the national team, as what was to be a six-week layoff for a left quadricep injury, took more than six months and multiple rehabilitation stints at the National Cricket Academy to fix.

Avesh Khan

Since pacers Mohammed Siraj (2 wickets averaging 26) and Prasidh Krishna(4 wickets averaging 19.5) had successful outings against Zimbabwe in the first two ODIs, the likes of Avesh Khan may be tried out. He had played only 1 ODI against West Indies in the 2022 tour and didn’t pick a wicket despite going for 54 runs in 6 overs. However, he has 11 scalps from 13 T20Is averaging 31.82.

Avesh Khan’s match-winning figures of 2/17 in four overs helped the Indian team seal the 20-over series against West Indies in the fourth match. Before his impressive spell, the pacer conceded 31 in 2.2 overs in the second T20I and 47 in three overs in the third. He had picked only 1 scalp in the first 2 T20Is against West Indies.
