Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders: Weather Forecast And Pitch Report Of Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai- IPL 2022, Match 01, CSK vs KKR. IPL 2022 will begin with the match between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and IPL 2021 runners up Kolkata Knight Riders. This is due to the traditional rule of playing the finalists of the last season on opening day.

With the arrival of two new teams, IPL 2022 will be a longer season than before. A total of 70 league games will be played this season. There will be two groups of five teams each. A team will play its group members and one of the teams from another group twice, whereas they will play one game each against other four teams. So, a team will play 14 leagues games before the playoffs. The top-4 team overall will qualify for the playoffs.

Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium will host the first game of the IPL 2022 between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Both teams played in the final of IPL 2021 as well.

With the super-fast outfield, high-scoring games are always on the cards at Wankhede Stadium. The highest IPL score at Wankhede Stadium is 235/1, made by Royal Challengers Bangalore against Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma (1733 runs) has made the most IPL runs on this ground, whereas Lasith Malinga (68 wickets) has taken the most IPL wickets here. AB de Villiers’ innings of 133 are the highest by any player on this very ground.

With the addition of the two new IPL sides, Lucknow SuperGiants and Gujarat Titans, the total number of matches have increased substantially. In IPL 2021 60 matches were held, but now the number has raised up to 74, including the playoffs.  Four prominent stadiums around Mumbai and Pune will be hosting the Tata IPL 2022 – Wankhede Stadium, MCA International Stadium Pune, Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. As per the schedule, CSK and KKR will fight out the opening clash of the Tata IPL 2022 in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, starting at 7: 30 PM.

Chennai and Kolkata both have a formidable squad in place owing to their superlative efforts during the Tata IPL 2022 Mega Auction. While ace pacer Deepak Chahar remained the top pick of CSK with a massive bid of INR 14 Crores, Kolkata went the distance to get new skipper Shreyas Iyer, whom they eventually got for INR 12.25 Crores.

The 4-time IPL winners CSK will have the advantage of having the sharp brain of MS Dhoni for the IPL 2022. The franchise opted to retain its core which makes it a stable side with a comfortable mix of experience and freshness.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) seemed desperate to get back the likes of Pat Cummins and Nitish Rana plus Shreyas Iyer, which exhausted more than half of their funds in the bank. The franchise does have viable options in the team but seems pretty modest in front of MS Dhoni’s CSK (at least on paper).

The surface in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium has been prepared with red clay which ensures that the pitch remains hard until the very end of the matches. The batters usually enjoy this venue as more often than not it produces a high scoring contest.

The deck at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium has always been good for batting. There is an even bounce on the track, and the shorter boundaries make the job even easier for the batters. The average 1st innings score of 180 runs in IPL and 194 runs in international games proves the point as well.

The game between KKR and CSK will start from 7.30 PM IST, so there will be a massive dew factor and both teams would want to bowl first after winning the toss.

There is very little help for the bowlers, in general, however, the ground offers a bit of swing upfront while a steady bounce throughout the match. The flip of the coin plays a large role in deciding the winner. With dew playing its part, skippers often choose to bat second to take advantage.

As Mumbai is a coastal town located in the Western fringes of India, the late March, April and early May will see searing heat and humidity. As the days move into late May, we can expect a bit of rain too as the monsoon will begin in India. Even otherwise, we can expect the interruption of rain in a couple of matches as summer rains are not uncommon in this part of the world.
