Delhi Capitals (DC) off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin elaborated on how he went about in the final over of the Qualifier 2 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday. Ashwin had to defend 7 off the final over but conceded a six off the fifth ball to Rahul Tripathi, which finished the game.

Despite having very few runs to defend off the last over, Ashwin made a commendable effort in holding down the KKR batsmen. In the first four balls, he got two wickets and gave away just a single run. But, unfortunately, Tripathi found his mojo off the fifth ball and smashed it over long-off to take KKR into the IPL 2021 final.

The first four balls, I didn’t think much, and it worked. And, before the fifth ball, I thought, ‘Aaha we have won! (Smiles)’. Then I thought about short boundaries, the dew, and also predicted that he would jump down the track, which is why I bowled it slightly short. Tripathi has never hit me for a four in the past. Unfortunately for us, it came at the wrong time,” Ashwin said.

“We have spent far too much talking about Ravichandran Ashwin” – Sanjay Manjrekar feels its time to move on from Ashwin in the T20s.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar reckoned that Team India needs to look beyond Ravichandran Ashwin in the T20s. The off-spinner has been selected for the upcoming T20 World Cup as part of India’s 15-man squad.

We have spent far too much talking about Ashwin. Ashwin, the T20 bowler, is not a great force in any team. And if you want Ashwin to change, I don’t think that’s going to happen because he’s been like this for the last 5-7 years.

I can understand us dwelling on Ashwin in Test matches where he’s fantastic. Him not playing a single Test match in England was a travesty. But to spend so much time on Ashwin when it comes to IPL and T20 cricket,” Manjrekar concluded.

India has selected four spinners for the World Cup, so it will be interesting to see if Ashwin gets a chance to play.
