IPL 2023 Auction: Will Be Interesting To See If Chennai Super Kings Invest in Future Captains Or Not- Aakash Chopra

Cricket commentator Aakash Chopra has said that it will be interesting to see if Chennai Super Kings will go after players who can be future captains or not during IPL 2023 auction. Aakash Chopra said that CSK has made clear that MS Dhoni will lead them in the next season.

However, MS Dhoni is highly expected to play his last season for Chennai Super Kings this season. MS Dhoni, who will turn 42 next year, has led CSK from the debut edition of IPL 2008. After MS Dhoni leaves CSK, the franchise will need a new skipper.

Interesting To See If CSK Goes After Skippers During IPL 2023 Auction: Aakash Chopra

While speaking on his Youtube Channel, former India opener Aakash Chopra spoke about Chennai Super Kings’ strategy in IPL 2023 auction. Chopra said that MS Dhoni will lead the team in the next season.

Chopra feels that the team has some potential skipper options like Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, it will be interesting to see if CSK goes after some other skipper options during the auction.

“One thing Chennai has made clear is that MS Dhoni will lead them in the upcoming season. They aren’t looking at Jadeja as their future captain, as of now, but it can change. They have Ruturaj Gaikwad as a future captaincy option, but will they think about investing in him or go for someone else? It will be interesting to see.” Aakash Chopra said in his Youtube video.

Aakash Chopra said that if CSK looks for potential captains, they might go after Kane Williamson or Jason Holder.

“There are some overseas options available for them in the auction pool. Kane Williamson can be one such option as his playing style suits their philosophy. They can also look at Jason Holder as he is an all-rounder and a phenomenal captain. Dhoni also likes these types of players who can contribute in all departments,” Aakash Chopra further said.

IPL 2023 auction is set to take place on December 23 in Kochi, Kerala. CSK has retained 18 players in their squad and released a total of 6 players. Chennai Super Kings has spent Rs. 74.55 crores so far and has Rs. 20.45 crores available. The MS Dhoni-led side can grab 7 more players during IPL 2023 auction out of which, 2 can be overseas players.
