One of the surprises from the one-day event was that veteran India bowler Sandeep Sharma, who has always performed well in the IPL, went unsold at the IPL 2023 auction.

The Punjab pacer was devastated and expressed his disbelief about what went wrong, claiming that he had done everything possible to remain in the running for selection.

The IPL 2023 auction turned out to be a huge event as it included three of the most expensive players in the league’s history in a single edition. On Friday, December 23 in Kochi, a few lives were saved, some players received life-changing sums of money, and on the other hand, there were some great deals and broken hearts.

There were no takers for some of the biggest international names, like Mohammad Nabi, Rassie van der Dussen, and IPL veterans Sandeep Sharma and Shreyas Gopal.

Sandeep Sharma made his IPL debut in 2013 while playing for the then-Kings XI Punjab, and since then, he has been one of the tournament’s most reliable performances. One of the best powerplay bowlers in IPL history, Sharma then honed his death-bowling abilities to become an effective all-phase pacer.

“I can’t control selection or non-selection”: Sandeep Sharma

Sharma stated that he was “shocked and disappointed” after finding no buyers for himself at the auction. The 29-year-old was shocked and expressed his shock that no team had expressed interest in signing him, despite the fact that he had consistently performed well for each squad for which he had played over the years.

Speaking to Cricket.com, Sharma said, “I’m shocked and disappointed. I don’t know why I went unsold. I’ve done well whichever team I had played for and genuinely thought some team would bid for me. To be honest, I was not expecting this.”

“Don’t even know where it has gone wrong. In domestic cricket, I have been performing well. In the Ranji Trophy, last round, I took seven wickets. I did so well in Syed Mushtaq Ali”  Sandeep Sharma added.
“I have always strived to be consistent in my bowling. And that’s the only thing in my hands. I can’t control selection or non-selection. If a chance comes then good, or else, I have to keep doing good work,”  Sharma further said.
Sharma is currently ranked 13th among the top wicket-takers in the competition with 114 wickets taken in his ten seasons of league play at an economy rate of 7.77.
