Lucknow Super Giants take on Rajasthan Royals in match 4 of IPL 2024 on Sunday from 3.30 pm IST in Jaipur. The match kicks off the campaign for the two sides. The Royals have a head-to-head count of 2-1 against LSG. After losing both games in 2022, Lucknow won the only game played between the two sides last year.

KL Rahul will be leading the side and will take up a new role for the team. He will bat at four as the middle-order keeper-batter with the T20 World Cup coming up. Gautam Gambhir was replaced by Justin Langer as the new head coach ahead of IPL 2024.

In another massive change for the side, Mark Wood was replaced by West Indian quick Shamar Joseph who broke into international cricket in the Test series against Australia. Devdutt Padikkal was traded by RR in exchange for Avesh Khan who the Super Giants allowed to go to the Rajasthan Royals.

Lucknow Super Giants made the playoffs back to back in IPL 2022 and 2023. Under a new coach, they will look to get over their Eliminator nemesis. Their biggest strength is their all-round core of players.

They added six players in the IPL 2022 auction with two overseas all-rounders in the mix as well. Thus the likes of David Willey and Ashton Turner will add strength to the all-round ability. Shivam Mavi will potentially replace Avesh Khan in the lineup. In this article, we predict Lucknow Super Giants’ probable XI for their match against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024 on Sunday.

KL Rahul will bat at four. He will take up the role of a middle-order keeper-batsman keeping his India ambitions for the T20 World Cup intact. It will be interesting to see how he goes. Rahul has scored 3663 runs at an average of 50-plus in 85 games in the IPL.

Nicholas Pooran

Pooran can be the free-flowing finisher at number five. He scored 306 runs for LSG in IPL 2022 striking at 144. In IPL 2023 he had better numbers with 358 runs at a strike rate of 172.95.

Deepak Hooda can bat at number six with his all-round prowess. He is a hard-hitter of the ball and has his best year for LSG in IPL 2022 where he scored 451 runs. In IPL 2023 he scored just 84 runs off 12 games.

Ravi Bishnoi comes in at eight as the specialist spinner for Lucknow Super Giants. He picked up 16 wickets in 15 games last season breaking into the Indian team. He picked up 13 wickets in IPL 2022. Since IPL 2023, Bishnoi has taken 33 wickets in 22 matches at a strike rate of 15.6.

Left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan can slot in at number 10. Since having a breakthrough year in IPL 2022 where he picked up 14 wickets in nine games, he remained injury prone throughout 2023 not playing enough games. He picked up just three wickets last season in five games.

Shamar Joseph

The West Indian pacer should conclude the XI for LSG. He should be picked over Naveen-Ul-Haq due to his express pace. This is his very first IPL season. He bowled his team to a series leveling victory against Australia at the Gabba earlier this year.

Ayush Badoni- Impact Sub

Badoni served the team very well as the Impact sub in IPL 2023 scoring 239 runs at a strike rate of 138.37. He might be used in the same role this year as well.
