The state funeral of the legendary leg-spinner is highly likely to be within two or three weeks, according to ‘Herald Sun’, but the date has not been fixed because Warne’s family members are waiting for his body to be returned to Melbourne from Thailand.

The state funeral would overlap with the Australian Rules Football League (AFL), but the MCG “will make all necessary arrangements to accommodate the service”.

‘The Age’ quoted sources as saying that Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews were working to find a suitable date with Warne’s family and they too wanted to attend the state funeral.

Meanwhile, the Great Southern Stand at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is all set to be renamed in honour of the former Australian great Shane Warne. Also, he has his own statue at the MCG ground.
