PSL 2022: Had That Attitude To Fight Till The Last Ball: Shaheen Afridi After Taking Lahore Qalandars To Maiden Title

Lahore Qalandars skipper Shaheen Afridi bowled a spell of 4/30 as his side defended 180 to win their maiden PSL title. Multan Sultans could muster only 138 as they were bowled out in 19.3 overs with Qalandars winning the game by 42 runs. The Afridi-led side finished second in the league stage and won the coveted title.

They join teams like Quetta Gladiators (2019) and Karachi Kings (2020) who won PSL titles after finishing second in the points table in those years. The season has now come to an end with Pakistan’s much-awaited series against Australia lined up next with Shaheen Afridi spearheading their bowling attack.

Shaheen Afridi spoke about his Lahore side playing till the very light ball and staying in the fight to win the contest.

“It’s a great achievement. We have been waiting for 6 years and I want to thank the Lahore crowd. They have come out in numbers and supported us throughout.

“A lot of people supported me, Hafeez guided me during a lot of pressure moments so thanks to all who supported me. The fight we showed as a team throughout the tournament is really fantastic and we had that attitude to fight till the last ball,” said Shaheen.

Veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez was the Player of The Match as he scored 69 off 46 balls to take the Qalanders to 180 His knock included nine fours and a six as he batted with a strike rate of 150.

“I want to thank each and everyone here and thanks to the management for believing in my ability as well. We all know it’s all about absorbing pressure in the final. The good partnership between me and Brook got us back into the game and then Wiese finished it nicely.

“We have been working hard for the last 7 years and they now get the reward for all the hard work. I am proud of how he (Shaheen Afridi) led the team,” said Hafeez.
