Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez lambasted the process of appointing the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja is currently serving as the chairman of PCB after he was appointed on September 13, 2021.

Raja was nominated by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, as a patron of PCB, to manage the functioning of the Pakistan board. Raja was unanimously elected as the chairman in a meeting in Lahore.

The present process is not correct: Mohammad Hafeez

Hafeez, who played 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 119 T20 International matches for Pakistan, excoriated the process of appointing PCB chairman.

“The present process is not correct because presently the chairman PCB was elected under a selection system and the procedure for selection of PCB chairman is not right,” Hafeez said on Geo News.

“The chairman PCB comes on political grounds and the chairman who comes politically does not understand cricket at all,” he added.

Hafeez called out for serious elections to take place in the PCB to elect the chairman of the board.

Hafeez had a difference of opinion with Ramiz Raja in the past after the latter had commented on the player’s international retirement.

The incident happened when Hafeez was selected in Pakistan’s squad for the New Zealand tour of 2020-21. Raja expressed his dissent and wanted PCB to give youngsters more opportunities.

In fact, Raja had also asked Hafeez to take international retirement gracefully to make way for new players.

In his response to Raja, Hafeez said that his 12-year-old son has a great cricketing sense than the former Pakistan skipper.

Raja also slammed Hafeez for preferring to play in the T10 league instead of playing for the national team in February last year.

The 41-year-old Pakistan all-rounder announced his retirement from international cricket earlier in this month.

Hafeez is currently playing for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League 2022. He scored 24 from 21 balls in their 171-run chase against Karachi Kings.

Lahore Qalandars opener Fakhar Zaman smashed  106 to help his team win by six wickets.
