Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has opined that the pace attack of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team is really good and it is one of the biggest strengths of the side.

The Sri Lanka tour of India 2022 has not been very good for the visitors as they have already lost the three-match T20I series against Rohit Sharma-led India by 3-0. However, they will have a chance to bounce back strong in the two-match Test series against the hosts.

The first Test match of the series will be played from March 4 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh, which will be Virat Kohli’s 100th Test and the second Test will be played from March 12 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

During a discussion on Cricbuzz, Parthiv Patel said that the Dimuth Karunaratne-led side have some good experienced players.

“You can see experience in this Sri Lankan Test team. You have Angelo Mathews, Dimuth Karunaratne, Dhananjaya de Silva as well who scored a century in the last tour of India.

“So, the quality is there. A huge strength of theirs is the pace attack; it is really good. If you see Suranga Lakmal, Dushmnata Chameera and Lahiru Kumara,” he said.

Former Indian wicket-keeper Parthiv opined that keeping a “champion side” like India under pressure over the course of 5 days would be the biggest challenge for the Sri Lankan team.

“They have been starting T20 games well; there is no doubt about that; but how long will they be able to put pressure on a champion side like India over the course of 5 days, that would be their biggest challenge.

“If they take 2 wickets early on with the new ball, so will they be able to play with the same energy and sustain that pressure session by session in the game, that would be a challenge in itself,” he further added.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka had suffered a 1-0 defeat during their last tour of India in 2017 in the three-match Test series.
