"It Was My Suggestion..": Ravindra Jadeja Reveals Why India Declared When He Was Batting On 175 On Day 2 vs SL In Mohali

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was quite surprised that the first Test in Mohali ended within 3 days but praised his bowlers who bowled brilliantly and took 16 wickets in total on the third day.

India managed to bundle out the Lankans for 174 & 178 with the spin twins, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja taking 15 wickets among them. It was a good surface to bat on but the Lankan batters succumbed to poor strokeplay.

It was a good start [to my captaincy career]. I never thought it was going to be that kind of a Test that gets over in three days. It was a good batting wicket with help for spinners and seamers.”

Credit to our bowlers who bowled in tandem and applied pressure. We knew it is a fast outfield and runs would be easier to come if you dig in. We were just waiting for an odd one to bounce differently and their batters to make mistakes,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Rohit Sharma talks about the declaration with Ravindra Jadeja on 175*

Rohit opened up on the fact that the team and Jadeja himself took the decision of declaring. On Day 2, Jadeja was well on course to score his maiden double century but keeping the interests of the team in mind, India declared and Jadeja was stranded on 175*.

It was the team’s decision and Jadeja’s decision on the declaration. Shows how selfless he is. It will be the second pink-ball Test in India. It’s a different challenge in India than outside. Let’s see what kind of wicket we get,” Rohit further added.

Nevertheless, the victory was a clinical performance from the Indians. Very often they have batted just once and bundled out opponents twice in home matches and the trend continued. The second Test will begin on March 12 in Bengaluru.
