IND vs SL: Shreyas Iyer Joins Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul In Elite List After Smashing Fifty In 3rd T20I

Shreyas Iyer was undoubtedly the star performer for India in the IND vs SL T20I series. After smashing a fifty in the 3rd T20I at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, the right-handed batsman made a special record which is only achieved by 3 other Indian players in the past.

Shreyas Iyer, who replaced Virat Kohli at the no.3 spot in IND vs SL T20I series, slammed a half-century in every game. He scored an unbeaten 57 in 1st T20I, an unbeaten 74 in 2nd T20I, and returned with an unbeaten 73 in the last match. The 27-year-old also won the man of the series award for smashing most 204 runs in the series.

Shreyas Iyer Joins Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul in Elite List

After shattering three consecutive half-centuries, Iyer has become the 4th Indian batsman to hit three-consecutive fifty-plus knocks in the shortest format. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul are the only other Indian batsmen who hold this record.

Virat Kohli achieved this milestone three times in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Rohit Sharma also slammed three consecutive half-centuries in T20Is in 2018. KL Rahul has achieved this triumph twice in 2020 and 2021. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer are the only two batsmen to smash back-to-back half-centuries in the same series.

Meanwhile, India defeated Sri Lanka in the 3rd T20I by 6 wickets. Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka faced a batting collapse at the top order. With skipper Dasun Shanaks’s unbeaten 74, the team managed to reach 146-5 in 20 overs.

Later, Shreyas Iyer slammed 73 off 45 balls to lead India to the victory. India reached the target in just 16.5 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Earlier, India defeated Sri Lanka by 62 runs in the 1st T20I clash and 7 wickets in the 2nd encounter.

With a 3-0 whitewash against Sri Lanka, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side is unbeaten in 12 consecutive T20Is so far. India will now face Sri Lanka in two Tests, starting from March 4. The IND vs SL 1st Test will be played at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali while the 2nd Test will take place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
