India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma grabbed a stunning catch off Ravichandran Ashwin’s delivery to dismiss Sri Lanka National Cricket Team opener Lahiru Thirimanne on Day 3 of the first Test match at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh, on Sunday, March 6.

In the second innings of Sri Lanka, opening batsman Thirimanne failed miserably. He got dismissed in the 3rd ball of the 3rd over after facing only 9 deliveries.

Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was bowling the 3rd over of the third innings of the match and he tossed up the ball around off-stump and the Sri Lanka opener Thirimanne came forward to defend but the ball spun away to take the outside edge and India skipper Rohit Sharma dived low to his right to grab a stunning catch.

This was Ashwin’s 433rd Test wicket and now he has equalled legendary Sri Lankan spinner Herath in the list of leading wicket-takers and has entered the top-10. Also, this was the 7th time the veteran off-spinner had dismissed Sri Lanka opener Thirimanne.

Sri Lanka Still Trailing By 390 runs

In the first innings of Sri Lanka, the batters failed miserably and they got bowled out for 174. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne contributed only 28 runs off 71 balls and Lahiru Thirimanne scored 17 runs off 60.

Angelo Mathews (22), Charith Asalanka (29) and Dhananjaya de Silva (1) also failed to score big runs.

The top run-getter for the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team in the first innings of the match was Pathum Nissanka who battled against the Indian bowling unit and scored an unbeaten 61 runs off 133 balls including 11 boundaries.

Meanwhile, at Lunch on Day 3, Sri Lanka were at 10/1 with Dimuth Karunaratne and Pathum Nissanka fighting against India.
