Indian captain Rohit Sharma will become only the ninth Indian player in the history of the game to play in more than 400 international matches when he steps out to lead the Indian team in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.

He has played 44 Tests, 230 ODIs, and 125 T20Is for India so far. Rohit made his ODI debut for India back in June 2007 and proceeded to make his T20I debut in the same year. Although he had a rough start initially, he has soon turned into one of India’s most reliable batters.

“Rohit Sharma did a phenomenal job as captain” – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ahead of the second Test against Sri Lanka, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised the leadership skills of Rohit, claiming that he is astute tactically but also brings a human element to his captaincy style.

Rohit is tactically strong. He has added a human element to his leadership. He is looking after everyone in the team. The way he looked after Jayant Yadav, who was under bowled in the first Test, was very pleasing.”

Even for the declaration, he wanted Ravindra Jadeja to complete his double hundred. However, Jaddu asked him to declare the innings. Rohit is not new to the leadership, and I think he did a phenomenal job,” Ashwin said.

India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in the first Test in Mohali. They will meet in the second game which is a pink-ball day-night affair in Bengaluru from March 12.
