IND vs SL: 3 Indian Players Who Can Retire From T20Is After Sri Lanka T20I Series.  Team India and Sri Lanka will play three ODIs and as many T20Is between December 2022 and January 2023. Team India is likely to host Sri Lanka for a white-ball series following the Bangladesh tour in December 2022.

According to a report, both the South Asian nations will play three ODIs and as many T20Is between December 2022 and January 2023. After the New Zealand tour comprising 3 T20Is (won by India 1-0) and 3 ODIs (won by New Zealand 1-0), the Men in Blue will tour Bangladesh to play a white-ball ODI series followed by a Test series.

Notably, Indian selectors have announced the squad for ODI and Test series with Rohit Sharma trusted to lead the squad in both series. While Indian selectors have rested a few senior players from the New Zealand tour, the full-strength squad has been named against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, In February 2022, Sri Lanka has already toured India. The Sri Lankan team played an all-format series against India in February-March 2022. The visitors got thrashed by the Indians in all formats of the game. India won the Test series 2-0 & T20I Series 3-0.

The Sri Lankan cricket board again wants to schedule a white ball tour. Meanwhile, so, the December-January window has been chosen for the Sri Lanka tour of India white ball games.

Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of both ODI and Test series against Bangladesh. Ravindra Jadeja is currently recovering from his knee surgery. However, with a short turnaround for the Bangladesh Test series, he will miss out. Instead, he will prepare for a return in home series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in January.

India are likely to be without the services of current T20I skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, among others, in the next edition of the 2024 T20I World Cup, which would make up for a highly new-look side.

Virat Kohli rediscovered his best and was one of the standout batters of the T20 World Cup 2022, but is likely to call it quits on the shortest version, given the workload management and key assignments in the other two formats, including the 2023 ODI World Cup at home.

Dinesh Karthik might well have played his last T20I for India. He made his T20I return on the back of his performances in the IPL 2022. However, in the 2022 T20 World Cup, he was nowhere close to his best. Given the responsibility of finishing innings, he scored 1 vs Pakistan, 6 vs South Africa, and 7 vs Bangladesh.

Ravichandran Ashwin was brought into the 2022 T20 World Cup squad because of his experience. He played the T20I series against West Indies, the Asia Cup 2022, and the home series against South Africa in the lead-up to the tournament bowling economically but not taking too many wickets.

In the T20 World Cup 2022 too, the pattern continued. He was picked ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal as the team banked on his experience. However, Ravichandran Ashwin did not manage to make an impact in the middle overs and give India wickets. He picked only six wickets in the tournament three of which came against Zimbabwe.

Virat Kohli may retire from T20Is after the conclusion of the Sri Lanka limited overs T20I series and may not be seen in action in the 2024 T20 World Cup and he may focus on ODI World Cup 2023.

Virat Kohli has featured in 115 T20Is where the 34-year-old run machine has amassed 4008 runs averaging 52.74. He is the leading run-getter in this format and is the only player to date to score more than 4000 T20I runs.

With everything achieved in T20Is, he may retire soon to concentrate on ODIs and Tests. He had scored his maiden T20I ton (122*) against Afghanistan in Asia Cup 2022, where he amassed 276 runs in 5 T20Is averaging 92. He was the leading run-getter in T20 WC 2022 by scoring 296 runs in 6 T20Is averaging 98.67.

Rohit Sharma has amassed 3853 runs in 148 T20Is averaging 31.33 and if selected for the Sri Lanka T20Is, he may retire from the shortest format. Like Virat Kohli, he has several records to his name in T20Is like most hundred in T20Is-4 and most T20I matches in his career -148, 2nd  most career T20I runs -3853, and it won’t be a surprise if he retires from T20Is to concentrate on Tests and ODIs.

The 36-year-old off-spinner may bid adieu to international cricket after the Sri Lanka T20Is if he’s selected for the last time. He has picked 72 scalps in 65 T20Is averaging 23.22 and has been past his prime.

He had a pathetic T20 World Cup 2022 and may retire from T20Is to focus on red-ball cricket. Apart from the match against Zimbabwe where he picked 3/22, he picked only 3 scalps from 5 T20Is and his economy rate was poor too- 8.16.
