SL vs IND: Sri Lanka Playing 11 for India, 3rd ODI, 2023. Sri Lanka lost the T20I series 2-1 and the ODI series 2-0 so far in this tour but a victory in this 3rd and final SL vs IND ODI match would do them a world of good with the 2023 ODI World Cup coming later this year.

The action shifts to Thiruvananthapuram Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, where the third ODI match between SL vs IND will be played on Sunday (15th January 2023).

India on the other hand are looking to strengthen their squad and finalize their best XI before going into the World Cup. Despite being a dead rubber both teams and their players will take this match seriously and look to make their mark with the big tournament coming up.

KL Rahul lead the tricky chase with an unbeaten 63 runs off 104 balls with Shreyas Iyer (28 runs), Axar Patel (21 runs), and Hardik Pandya (36 runs) playing vital cameos at the other end. Sri Lanka got to 102 for 1 in the 17th over, then threw their innings away in a collapse that cost them six wickets for 50 runs. The lower order pushed them up to 215 all out – the last wicket falling in the 40th over. But it was never going to be enough.
And though Sri Lanka’s bowlers made India’s batters work, reducing them to 86 for 4 at one stage, India’s run rate was too healthy, and their batting resources too rich. Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul put on a 75-run stand for the fifth wicket, breaking the back of the chase. Then KL Rahul pushed on to 64 not out off 103 balls.
Kuldeep Yadav triggered Sri Lanka’s collapse by taking Kusal Mendis’ wicket, before picking up Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka to finish with 3 for 51 from his 10 overs. Mohammed Siraj, who had been excellent with the new ball, took 3 for 30, picking up a couple of late wickets.

The 23-year-old Sri Lanka National Cricket team right-handed batter Nuwanidu Fernando played a terrific knock on his ODI debut, but then got run out in an unfortunate manner on 50 off 63 balls. Nuwanidu Fernando opened the innings with Avishka Fernando in the absence of Pathum Nissanka and he showcased a batting masterclass on his debut.

Nuwanidu Fernando was fluent with the bat against the strong Indian bowling attack and he impressed everyone with his batting. The 23-year-old smashed a half-century on his ODI debut to become just the 6th batter to achieve the milestone for Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.
