Beth Mooney replaces Sneh Rana as Gujarat Giants skipper in WPL 2024

Beth Mooney has replaced Sneh Rana as Gujarat Giants skipper for WPL 2024 (Women’s Premier League 2024). Beth Mooney was also named the skipper in the last season. However, she was injured after the opening game and Sneh Rana led the side in her absence.

Beth Mooney suffered a calf injury in the opening match of the tournament against Mumbai Indians Women. Later, she was ruled out of the tournament. Laura Wolvaardt replaced her in the squad later. The Australia skipper was retained by the franchise ahead of the WPL 2024 auction.

Beth Mooney is a wicketkeeper-batsman from the Australia Women team. She has played 95 T20Is for Australia Women. She accounts for more than 2700 runs in the shortest format averaging 41+. She has also slammed 2 tons and 52 half-centuries in the shortest format.

Sneh Rana becomes Beth Mooney’s deputy in WPL 2024

As Beth Mooney was named the Gujarat Giants skipper, Sneh Rana has been named the vice-captain of the team.

“They (Mooney and Rana) will be part of the leadership group with head coach Michael Klinger, mentor and advisor Mithali Raj, and assistant coach Nooshin Al Khadee,” Gujarat Giants said in an official statement.

Sneh Raha is a bowling all-rounder who bowls off-spin. She played 8 matches in the season and hunted 6 wickets at an average of 34+ and 8.58 economy. She could only add 34 runs with the bat across 5 innings with a top knock of 20.

However, Sneh Rana failed to lead the team successfully. Gujarat Giants won just 2 matches out of 8 and lost 6 games. With just 4 points, they finished in the last 5th spot in the points table. As a result, they could not qualify for the playoffs. Gujarat Giants will aim for a better show under skipper Beth Mooney.

Gujarat Giants to play opening match against Mumbai Indians Women

Meanwhile, Women’s Premier League 2024 (WPL 2024) is all set to commence on Friday, February 23. Mumbai Indians will take on Delhi Capitals in the opening game at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Mumbai Indians Women are the defending champions of WPL 2024. They crushed Delhi Capitals Women in the last season in the final.
