T20 World Cup 2024: Rinku Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Shubman Gill snubbed as Hardik Bhogle announces India's WC squad

Renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle has selected India's T20 World Cup squad, set to be played in the West Indies and USA in June. While Harsha Bhogle's squad isn't official, it adds speculation until the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announces the final squad.

With the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 providing numerous options for each position, the selectors face the challenging task of picking a balanced 15-man squad. According to recent reports, the BCCI has scheduled a meeting for squad selection in Delhi on April 27.

Harsha Bhogle made some unexpected omissions from his squad, leaving out players like Rinku Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill. However, he surprised many by including Rajasthan Royals' pacer Sandeep Sharma in his lineup, considering his success in the IPL 2024.

Harsha Bhogle Leaves Out KL Rahul

The commentator selected Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal as openers for the marquee tournament. Bhogle chose Virat Kohli for the number three position despite criticisms regarding his strike rate. He named Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant as the wicketkeepers in the lineup.

Pant has made a remarkable comeback from a 15-month injury absence. The left-handed batter has amassed 342 runs in nine innings with an average of 48.86 and a strike rate of 161.32. Samson has scored 314 runs with an outstanding average of 62.80 and a strike rate exceeding 152.

Harsha Bhogle included Suryakumar Yadav in the middle order, followed by Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube in the squad. Duve earned selection following his impressive performances for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Dube's inclusion adds additional batting firepower to the lineup.

Bhogle opted for Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, along with Ravindra Jadeja, to strengthen the spin department in his squad. Yadav's wicket-taking ability is valuable in the middle overs. Additionally, Axar Patel and Jadeja add depth to the batting lineup with their batting abilities.

Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and the promising Arshdeep Singh have featured in Harsha Bhogle's formidable pace bowling attack. Sandeep Sharma also earned a place in the squad. Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh have struggled to deliver in the ongoing IPL tournament.
