In a career running over 24 years, 200 Test matches, 100 centuries, Sachin Tendulkar went from a being a 16-year old debutant on the international pitch to the God of cricket.

Meanwhile, Tendulkar, who was born on this day 45 years ago has given immense reasons to the Indians to cheer about.

However, Sachin burst on to the scene with the record of scoring 326* in a school match but little did everybody knew what he had in his store. He made his first-class debut at the age of 14 for a starred Mumbai team.

He made his India debut in 1989 against Pakistan in Karachi. On the other end, carrying the ball were the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan and Abdul Qadir.

He scored 15 runs off 24 balls before he got cleaned bowled by Pakistan’s 17-year-old Waqar Younis.

Meanwhile, the most precious thing during his cricketing career was when he won the 2011 ICC World Cup. Before bidding farewell to cricket, Sachin had scored 15, 921 Test runs and 18,426 ODI runs and numerous other records to his name.

Although he may have retired from all forms of cricket, his service to the nation continues unabated.
