In a career of running over 24 years, 200 Test matches, 100 centuries, Sachin Tendulkar went from a being a 16-year old debutant on the international pitch to the God of cricket.

Meanwhile, on this day, 45 years ago a little boy was in Mumbai, who went on to become the best batsmen in the world.

Sachin burst on to the scene with the record of scoring 326* in a school match but little did everybody knew what he has in his store. He made his first-class debut at the age of 14 for a starred Mumbai team.

Sachin made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1989 in Karachi when he was just 16 years old. Moreover, he also became the youngest Indian cricketer to represent India in a Test match. He scored 15 runs off 24 balls before he got cleaned bowled by Pakistan’s 17-year-old Waqar Younis, also a debutant in the game.

However, he was soon to make a mark scoring 59 runs off 172 balls in the first innings of the second Test. Tendulkar scored his maiden Test hundred against England at Old Trafford in 1990.

He also single-handedly took India to the final of 2003 ICC World Cup but fell short against a top-notch Australian team.

Meanwhile, the best moment of his career came was when he lifted the ICC World Cup in 2011 in his home ground. He also announced his retirement at the same Wankhede Stadium playing his 200th Test against the Windies.

In 200 Tests, Sachin had scored 15,921 runs including 51 hundred, while in 463 ODIs he had registered 18,426 runs with the help of 49 centuries.

However, during his time in the cricket field, Sachin has given immense reasons to Indians for cheering and laughing out loud. Although he has left the cricketing field, but his presence is always felt.
