Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana did well with the bat
Going to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Indian cricket team got a flying start through their openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana.
Verma smashed nine fours and two sixes during her 39-ball 68-run knock, while Mandhana, the vice-captain of the team, scored 39-ball 59 laced with five fours and three sixes. Because of their efforts, India, with ease, got 129 runs in their opening stand, which proved as the solid base for the rest of the match.
Sri Lanka women brought themselves back in the middle of the innings by taking a few wickets. After the dismissals of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana, there were no other significant big knocks from the Indian cricket team. Still, they managed to register a total of 183 for 5, the second-highest first-innings score in a Women's T20I tournament final.
A record-making Asia Cup win by India
India eventually won the match by 72 runs, a massive margin to win a final of the Women's Asia Cup. According to the stats published by Cricbuzz, 72 runs is the second-biggest victory margin in the final of a 5-plus team tournament in Women's T20Is, only behind Australia's 85-run win over India in the T20 World Cup 2020 final at the MCG.
