The India Women’s National Cricket Team won their record eighth Women’s Asia Cup title after beating the Sri Lanka Women’s National Cricket Team in the final. After the match, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side refused to take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi. Later, during the post-match press conference, head coach Amol Muzumdar broke his silence on the team’s refusal to collect the trophy.
Mohsin Naqvi, who is the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council and also the chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), walked away without presenting the trophy to the India Women’s National Cricket Team. This is not the first time that he has walked away; back in Asia Cup 2025, he did the same when India’s men's team refused.

While speaking with the reporters during the post-match press conference, head coach Amol Muzumdar was not very happy that the team refused to collect the medal and the trophy after winning the tournament from Mohsin Naqvi. Amol Muzumdar revealed that the decision was taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and they support the same.
Amol Muzumdar said while speaking to the media (as quoted by Cricinfo), "That stand has been taken by BCCI and we stand by it. For us, this tournament is over, we are the champions. That's good enough."
Amol Muzumdar further added, "It was on the big board that India are the champions of Asia Cup 2026. This tournament is officially over for us. We're happy that we're the champions and we look forward to the Asian Games."
Why did India refuse to take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi?
This is not the first instance that the Indian team has refused to take the trophy from Moshin Naqvi. It started with the Men’s Cricket Team during the Asia Cup 2025. This was done by Suryakumar Yadav and his boys to showcase solidarity against Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack, in which several Indian civilians were killed; after that, they also stopped the customary handshakes.
As India refused last year to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the trophy was taken away by the ACC president; similarly, this time there was also no trophy celebration for Harmanpreet Kaur’s side, as they also refused the same. This is a big issue that needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

Coming to the match, India put up a total of 183/5 courtesy of their two openers, Smriti Mandhana scoring 59 runs and Shafali Verma scoring 68 runs, as they laid a foundation. Sri Lanka failed to chase down the target and were bowled out for 111 runs and lost the match by 72 runs.
After the match, speaking on India’s win, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur revealed that the team has high standards and they maintain the same and try to match it every day. She also felt that 184 runs in a final is a massive target.
"I think we played to our standards because that's what we discussed when we came here. We have certain standards, and we have to keep matching them every day. We are very happy with the way we all performed. And I think the girls have done fabulously well throughout the entire tournament. Setting 184 in a final, that's a big thing."
